Gym Magic offers several classes in our recreational cheer program. Our Cheer Academy classes are open to beginning through intermediate cheerleaders from kindergarten age on up. Tumbling skills are also a dynamic and challenging part of cheerleading. We provide beginning through advanced tumbling classes for students in kindergarten through adults.

On the competitive side, we have the first and only All Star Competitive Cheer Squads in Las Cruces: the Senior Xtreme All Stars and the Junior Xtreme All Stars. Both teams have won numerous competitions at the state, regional and national levels. They’re undefeated!

Individual school squads can set up private classes just for their squad.  Please call our office and we’ll arrange times that work for you.

We offer beginning cheer in our Cheer Academy, which begins instruction with Kinder Cheer for 4 to 6 year olds. We also have Tumbling classes and Cheer I and Cheer II for grade school age students. Our teachers will bring cheer to life with fun moves and motions for each student to learn. For the serious cheer student, Xtreme All-Star squads are our competitive year-round cheer program.  Students must try-out for positions on each All-Star squad. Our teachers will also create a custom cheer class for a school cheer squad that wants help on any area of cheer.

Kinder Cheer for 4- to 6-year olds
Kinder Cheer is a fun introduction to cheerleading for 4- to 6-year-olds. Classes meet once per week for 50 minutes and teach age-appropriate cheerleading skills: motions, jumps, cheers, beginning stunts and dance, plus introductory tumbling. Classes follow dedicated lesson plans and utilize a student:teacher ratio of 8 to 1. At the end of every term, students perform a routine incorporating the skills they learned. Kinder Cheerleaders build a solid foundation that will prepare them to advance to Cheer I or II.

Cheer I for 1st Graders and Up
Cheer I is a beginning cheer class for students in first grade and older. Classes meet once or twice per week for 60 minutes. The routines, cheers and skills taught in Cheer I are more advanced and the dance is faster than in Kinder Cheer, but the class still emphasizes coordination and all the skills necessary to become a great cheerleader. Each class follows a series of lesson plans created to teach proper progressions for the required skills.  Each student receives individual attention since classes have a student:teacher ratio of 8 to 1. Students perform a cheer routine at the end of every term.

Cheer II for 1st Graders and Up
Cheer II teaches the skills needed to try out for a cheer team, whether at Gym Magic or at a public school.  Students refine their jumps, cheer skills, dance and tumbling plus learn new skills. Cheer II cheerleaders perfect their cartwheels, round-offs and kickovers, and when ready begin training for standing back handsprings and round-off back handsprings.  Classes meet once or twice per week for 60 minutes.

Cheer Tumbling classes focus on the building blocks of tumbling passes: kickovers, round-offs, back handsprings and even back tucks. Once students have mastered the basics, they begin connecting skills into passes, such as round-off back handsprings and round-off back handspring back tucks.

Gym Magic’s staff is trained in gymnastics and cheer spotting techniques to provide students with as much safety as possible. Our facility is also designed with safety and skill progression in mind. The cheer floor is springloaded, foam padded and carpeted. We have a wealth of mats coaches utilize during classes, including specialized tumbling mats such as back handspring mats and incline wedges. Cheerleaders use our trampoline, Tumbl Trak, rod floor and foam pit, as well! No one in the area provides such expertise and a fully-developed facility for teaching tumbling. Even the NMSU cheer squad comes to us for tumbling practice!

Gym Magic’s Xtreme All Star Cheer Squads are tops in New Mexico and across the nation! Our senior squad, the Senior Xtreme All Stars, has won every state and regional competition they’ve entered. The Junior Xtreme All Stars, our younger competitive squad, competes only within New Mexico and has won their division in every competition.

Try-outs for the All Star Program are in the spring. The senior squad includes high school students from across Las Crues, all of them experienced cheerleaders with advanced cheer and tumbling moves. The Junior Xtreme All Star Squad is geared towards middle school students with intermediate to advanced cheer skills. Interested in All Star?
